About Us

CyPhaCon was created by a small group of local geeks who wanted to create a genre-friendly convention for all fans while also raising money for worthy charitable causes. Planning began in August of 2010 for what would be CyPhaCon first official event in April of 2011. This crew of dedicated fans including many with previous convention experience embarked on a fast-paced blitz to introduce CyPhaCon to the masses. And in just 9 short months on April 16, 2011, CyPhaCon Officially opened with a crowd of nearly 500 for its inaugural event.

After our first successful event, we slowly began to realize our community was hungry for more. In 2012 CyPhaCon brought us our 1st three-day event and included 3 media guests for the first time. Our attendance grew once again, and we realized we were growing faster than expected.

After yet another growth event for our 3rd convention changes were happening. Late in 2013 our board of directors reincorporated from nonprofit to the new company formally known as CYPHA LLC.

As 2014 passed and once again surpassed our expectations we celebrated our 5th Anniversary on April 17-19, 2015, with a record crowd of over 2000 attendees. To celebrate our 5th year, we expanded our show to include the use of all 3 main floors and the Rosa Hart Theater in the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Every year past our 5th anniversary CyPhaCon continued its upward trend in record attendance numbers. In late 2019 we embarked on our biggest plans yet to celebrate our 10th Anniversary in 2020. As we got closer all the pieces were falling into place until 1 month before our show when the world came crashing to a halt. Our planned big event was canceled due to the pandemic but that did not stop us. Thanks to the wonderful support of fans, vendors, and sponsors CYPHACON is coming back for 2021!

During this hiatus, CYPHACON has begun its complete rebranding and updated look to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We have changed our logo to include Lake Charles to recognize our home and the community we serve.

In 2022 CYPHACON celebrated our delayed but much expected 10th anniversary show April 1-3, 2022. After an emotional and extremely hectic weekend CYPHACON reached a milestone of nearly 10k attendees through the door.

This event has been and always will be a labor of love for those dedicated fans who put this on year after year. Additionally, CYPHACON will always be a completely volunteer-run event. Lake Charles is our home, one that has been battered by a pandemic, 2 hurricanes, an ice storm, and an epic flood all in 1 year. We are a resilient community and it’s with this we dedicate our events, to bring our community something hopeful, and fun to experience!
